Geospatial Policy Analysis of ICT Infrastructure in Uganda

In a collaborative project with the U.S. Embassy in Uganda, I tackled environmental health challenges in Kampala, focusing on pollution from industries and household sources. Using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and R for time-series regression, I identified critical pollutant areas and industries, guiding the strategic placement of health centers.

The combination of GIS and R was vital for visualizing and predicting pollution trends in Kampala. My analysis, presented in a White paper to local leaders and Embassy staff, influenced budgetary decisions to promote cleaner technologies and increased NGO involvement, aiming to reduce pollution’s health impacts.

This project has had a lasting effect on Kampala’s environmental health policies. By highlighting areas for technological improvement and NGO partnership, it has paved the way for reduced pollution-related health issues and established a data-driven approach for future environmental initiatives in Uganda.
